This month's Braveheart, Sparkes MorebyThursday 11th May, 2006
This month’s Braveheart award goes to Sparks Moreby.
Sparks is a Staffordshire bull terrier and he is one year old.
Sparks was brought in on the 5th of March 2006, as he was involved in a road traffic accident.
X-rays had shown that Sparks had broken his left leg and he had also damaged the nerves in his right leg. Even though this would have been quite painful Sparks was friendly and always pleased to see everyone.
Spark’s left leg had to be treated first as it was broken and needed to be stabilised. Sparks had lots of dressing changes which were done by the vets and nurses in the hospital.
Sparks could walk but it was difficult and he dragged his right foot because the nerves in that leg were damaged, but this did not cause him any pain.
As time went by Sparks left leg healed and this meant that Sparks could begin treatment on the right leg. Spark’s owner spoke to the vets and they thought it would be a good idea for him to try some physiotherapy or hydrotherapy.
Sadly this therapy did not help as the nerves were damaged beyond repair. Sparks was starting to damage his leg as he was walking. It was decided that it would be better for Sparks if the leg was removed as it was just causing more harm than good.
On the 19th of March 2006 Sparks had his right leg amputated. Shortly after he had recovered from his anaesthetic he was up and running around waiting to play, with his never-ending wagging tail!
